The Perfect Kid-Friendly Itinerary in Breckenridge, Colorado

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think the Rocky Mountains are better in the summer and fall than they are in the winter. While most people visit Breckenridge in the winter for skiing and snowboarding, I prefer exploring the mountain town in a t-shirt or light sweater. Here are some family-friendly activities you can’t miss in Breckenridge, Colorado!

A Perfect (and FREE) Morning in Breckenridge

Park at the Ice Arena and do all 4 of these activities!

High Line Railroad Park

This park is perfect for kids of all ages, with multiple play structures, slides, tons of nature play installations, and even a real snowplow train.

Isak Heartstone

This giant wooden troll sculpture is just a short walk from the parking lot. I took this photo in winter, but it shows the incredible size of Isak! Your toddlers will love him.

Ciugaboc hidden marble run

This marble run is built into the trees just off the Illinois Creek Trail behind the Ice Arena, between the park and the troll. Bring your own golf balls just in case, but there are usually some there.

Illinois Creek Trail

This trail has a ton of options around the Ice Arena to explore. You can go out and back as far as your kids will tolerate, or you can take the long loop further into the mountains. My 3 toddlers had no problem walking this trail on their own, and the fall colors in early October were perfect.

More to Do with your Family in Breckenridge

Main Street has a ton of shops, mountain town vibes, coffee shops and restaurants. Here are some of our favorite stops:

Blue River Plaza has a small playground, tons of grass, and a creek running through it. It is a great spot to let your kids play and run in the sunshine!

Mountain View Coffee Bar is a cute small-town vibe coffee shop in the middle of Breckenridge!

Ollie’s Pub & Grub is a restaurant on a boat!

Daylight Donuts is a donut shop combined with small-town diner feel! Donuts AND a classic breakfast. Get there early because it gets busy!

You Cannot Miss River Park and Playground

This playground looks like Elsa’s castle, is next to a river, and there is a bike track! We spent hours here, and the backdrop is gorgeous.
